Heavy Down Pour Storm Ilorin, Destroyed several Houses - community cries out, call for government assistance. Yesterday, it was a rainy experience for people within Ilorin metropolis as rain stormed the city and selectively destroyed several properties. The rainy experience was not favorable. The SATCOMMEDIA learnt that the rainstorm that occurred on Saturday night also displaced many people at Oke Ogun community, in Edun, Idiagbon community, in Emirs road, Isale-Gambari among other affected areas. Though no lives were lost in the incident. An eyewitness from the community affirmed the incident and call on government for assistance, as many people left were devastated with little or without hope of assistance from any quarters. He however, further stressed that, any assistance for non-governmental organizations would go along way in restoring the lost hope and further placed them back to normal life.


The Honourable representing Ilorin East and Ilorin South Federal Constituency and the Chairman, House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Abdulganiyu S. Cook Olododo has embarked on sensitization campaign and distribution of preventive materials to the members of his constituency against the spread of corona virus. According to Hon. Cook Olododo, his gesture is to complement the laudable efforts of both the Federal and State governments in the fight against the spread of corona virus in Kwara State in particular and in Nigeria in general.

The sensitization campaign and distribution of preventive materials cut across all the 23 wards of Ilorin East and Ilorin South Local Government Areas. Market places, traditional  and community leaders as well as party chieftains were not left out in the campaign and distribution of preventive materials.

At Ago-Aiyekale community in Akanbi ward 4 of Ilorin South, the people of the community expressed their profound gratitude to Hon. Olododo for his prompt intervention in preventing the occurrence and spread of corona virus in their community. They added that Hon. Olododo is a grassroot politician who always makes himself available whenever the need arises.

At Opolo neighborhood of Akanbi Ward 3 of Ilorin South Local Government Area where sensitization campaign train also stopped and distribution of preventive materials took place, the people of the community including Alagua Opolo could not hide their happiness over the gesture of Hon. Olododo in ensuring that incidence of corona virus is not recorded in their community. The people also thanked Hon. Olododo for his quick intervention and pledged their support for him always.

Similarly, when the train of Hon. Cook Olododo's sensitization campaign and distribution of preventive materials against the spread of corona virus stopped at Idi-Ape in Aare ward of Ilorin East Local Government, the faces of the people in the area were lightened up with joy and happiness over the laudable gesture of Hon. Cook Olododo. It is the belief of the people in the area that the exemplary leadership qualities embedded in Hon. Cook propelled him to embark on this kind of laudable programme. They added that this kind of programme will surely increase the love of Hon Cook Olododo in the heart of his constituents.

Also, while the campaign train stopped at Ipata market of Ilorin East Local Government Area, people, after been given preventive materials, such hand sanitizers, gloves and masks, were equally sensitized on the need to take preventive measures against the spread of corona virus in the society. It was emphasized at the market that the best  corona virus cure for now is prevention.

Other areas covered by the campaign train and distribution of preventive materials are Oke oyi, Maraba, Okelele, Ojagboro, Centre Igboro, Taiwo, Edun, Opomalu, Tanke, Fate, Gaa Akanbi, etc.

Meanwhile, in his words of advice and encouragement, Hon. Cook Olododo reiterated the need for collective efforts in order to win the  challenges of corona virus in Nigeria in particular and in the world in general. He believes that the battle against the spread of corona virus will soon be won but only if we play our individual and collective roles. He advised that in the meantime, people should take to the advice of the expert and strictly comply with all the measures been putting in place from time to time by the governments at all levels to curtail the spread of the deadly virus. He added that other palliative measures are been presently fashioned out by his team to cushion the not-too-palatable effects of the stay-at-home measure of the governments. He prays that Nigeria and the world over will soon be  lifted out of this corona virus challenge.
