Heavy Down Pour Storm Ilorin, Destroyed several Houses - community cries out, call for government assistance. Yesterday, it was a rainy experience for people within Ilorin metropolis as rain stormed the city and selectively destroyed several properties. The rainy experience was not favorable. The SATCOMMEDIA learnt that the rainstorm that occurred on Saturday night also displaced many people at Oke Ogun community, in Edun, Idiagbon community, in Emirs road, Isale-Gambari among other affected areas. Though no lives were lost in the incident. An eyewitness from the community affirmed the incident and call on government for assistance, as many people left were devastated with little or without hope of assistance from any quarters. He however, further stressed that, any assistance for non-governmental organizations would go along way in restoring the lost hope and further placed them back to normal life.
Nigeria Ambassadors for positive change visit Ogele Community, create awareness on Lassa Fever
A Kwara based NGO named Nigeria Ambassadors for positive change visit the people of Ogele Community and create awareness on Lassa fever, in a brief remark by the Director General of the organization, Amb. Ibrahim Abdulwasiu speaks excellently on the the deadly disease with numerous symptoms, he made it clear by communicating to the community the history of Lassa Fever and the symptoms of the disease which includes vomiting, headache e.t.c
Amb. Muhammad Ashiata Abimola, the woman coordinator for the organization take the medium to communicate on the epidemiology of the disease where she claimed the disease is endemic in West Africa including Nigeria, with about 300,000-500,000 infection annually and about 5,000 death per year, she also claimed that the disease is currently detected in Lagos which is close to kwara and as it well known majority of the bus moving from Lagos to kwara mostly enroute through this location which warrant a need for awareness around this Community. Amb. Abdusalam Gbolahan, the president of the organization take his stand and discuss on the transmission of the disease where he grouped the transmission into two, primary and secondary transmission with the primary transmission being Rodent to Human transmission and secondary transmission being Human to human transmission, he made it clear how the transmission occurs and also talks of the multimated rat which is the major rodent that cause the disease, he also emphasis that transmission can also takes place through handshaking with infected individual.
The director general further explain better ways to prevent the disease as the treatment for the disease is yet to be known, among which are, discourage rats from your environment, clean used household materials, and wash hands at least five times a day, having cat around us is also welcome as a preventing measure he claimed.
Amb. Giwa the mobilization Director also used the opportunity to call the attention of the Aree and the community chairman on overhead wire which is close to a roof among the houses in the community, numerous question was asked and attend to during the conversation in attendance are the community head, the community Chairman, the Chief imam among others. The chief imam on behalf of the community head appreciate the visitation and pray for the organization for bringing them this awareness, the community head takes the privilege to appreciate the organization for the visitation.
