Heavy Down Pour Storm Ilorin, Destroyed several Houses - community cries out, call for government assistance. Yesterday, it was a rainy experience for people within Ilorin metropolis as rain stormed the city and selectively destroyed several properties. The rainy experience was not favorable. The SATCOMMEDIA learnt that the rainstorm that occurred on Saturday night also displaced many people at Oke Ogun community, in Edun, Idiagbon community, in Emirs road, Isale-Gambari among other affected areas. Though no lives were lost in the incident. An eyewitness from the community affirmed the incident and call on government for assistance, as many people left were devastated with little or without hope of assistance from any quarters. He however, further stressed that, any assistance for non-governmental organizations would go along way in restoring the lost hope and further placed them back to normal life.
The Kwara State Government has debunked claims circulating on social media platforms that the tripartite meeting involving State Government, Nigeria Labour Congress, National Union of Local Government Employees, Nigerian Union of Teachers and Trade Union on the full implementation of new minimum wage ended in a gridlock yesterday.
Reacting to the development, the State Commissioner for Finance and Planning, Mrs. Oyeyemi Olasumbo Florence maintained that it was a claim of questionable accuracy, affirming that the meeting ended peacefully as they agreed on a framework which would fast track terms and provisions needed to complete the processes, this was contained in a statement released by Ayodeji Yusuf, Media Assistant to the Commissioner.
“In all honesty, the committee and the state government under the leadership of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq are serious about the task ahead of it and I am glad to inform the public that the negotiation has reached a critical stage which will fast track the drafting and timely submission of our report as soon as possible”, she added.
She reassured civil servants and members of the public that the Committee is sincere with the task as Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has given them mandate to work assiduously with all labour unions to ensure that no stone is left unturned.
She commended the unflinching support and cooperation of all the parties involved in the negotiation processes, reiterating that the Governor has reinstated policies that take care of the welfare of state civil servants and Kwarans as a whole.
